Time flies in Trento Blog dei volontari
Today the calendar marks one whole month since I started my ESC experience in Trento. I can say that it exceeded my expectations.
I can’t believe 30 days have already passed, where does time go? On my first week I wrote this:
Life seems to fall into its place and this city embraces this new me with open arms. I cannot say I feel home yet, but there’s something about this place that makes me feel secure and established.
Is it weird that I feel home already? I don’t want to jinx it, so I’m scared to say that I’m very happy but I really am. Isn’t it crazy?
Of course not everything has been nice and wonderful, I’ve had my lows. But I also embrace them, I don’t carry the weight of bad experiences with me, I go through them and try to learn whatever that situation is trying to teach me. And for the moments I didn’t understand what was happening or how I could manage it, I had great support at home and in the office. I love how everyone here is available for a good deep talk when it’s needed. I loooove deep talks, can you tell?
I’m enjoying every bit of this opportunity, trying my best in the project I’m in and I feel encouraged and appreciated when I do so. I’m learning new things about my job, my coworkers and myself every day, which makes coming to the office every morning something that I look forward to. At home I’m having a blast, building strong friendships, sharing emotions, laughs, food, tea, concerts, films, sketch books and walks. I never imagined that I’d be living with so many different people at the same time but if adapting is a superpower, I think it would be mine because I appreciate every bit of everyone’s differences and I feel very lucky to share a flat with Caro, Michelangelo, Jakub, Juan and of course, Joshua.
Two of my goals for this year are to learn Italian and to travel around the country. I think one month is not enough to do both fully yet, but I’m getting there. In the beginning I couldn’t understand a lot, and now capisco tutto but cannot create full sentences… yet. About travelling, I’ve been to a few places here and there. On my first weekend we went to Bolzano and met the other volunteers there. In my second week I visited Milano and this weekend we’ll be going to Bolonia. I still have a whole year to reach all the goals of my list, but this is a great start. I’ll keep you updated!
