My year in Italy a.k.a. the best decision of 2020 Blog dei volontari
Hello everyone!
My name is Melike. I am a 25-year-old English teacher from Turkey who spent 10 wonderful months volunteering in Molfetta. Here in this blog post, I will try to explain and summarize my experience for you.
After a stressful working year in İstanbul because of the Covid period, I wanted to do something for myself. I wanted to change my routine and get rid of all the worries I had. I found this great volunteering project in Molfetta which also had a lot of common points with my job so I decided to apply. As a non-Eu citizen, I was honestly surprised when I had the acceptance. After a long visa and paperwork period, I was finally in Molfetta.
I shared my room and my house with wonderful people and you may think that it is not a good thing in the beginning, but not in Via Cifarelli… We shared so many moments together that I will remember forever. I learned so many things about different cultures and traditions. We traveled to as many places as possible as the restrictions allowed us and I was amazed by the beauty of Italy and appreciated every moment we spent together with other volunteers. Interacting with young Italians during the lessons was also amazing and it taught me a lot. I tried to share my own culture and country as much as I can.
Overall, I can say that it was a great decision to do this, and I wouldn’t change a thing about my experience. All I can say that you should definitely do this for yourself and it will be one of the best years of your life no matter where you come from!
